ASHLAND, Ohio – Montse Alvarado, who serves as vice president and executive director of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, will speak as part of Ashland University’s Faith and Society lecture series, on Monday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m., in the Heritage Room of the John C. Myers Convocation Center. The event is free and open to the public and will also be streamed at https://ashlanduniversity.zoom.us/j/92785769838. For those in attendance, masks are required.

Alvardo’s presentation is titled “Societies Built to Last: Saved by Will or Grace?”

Alvardo has been with Becket, a non-profit, public-interest legal and educational institute with the mission to express the protection of all faiths, since 2009 and was named to her current role in 2017. She has led initiatives in development, communications, strategy and operations that have helped secure religious liberty victories against the contraceptive mandate, protect the rights of churches to choose their leaders and safeguard the free speech of crisis pregnancy centers and religious groups on campus.

Once profiled by the Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Edition, Alvardo has been a guest on several major networks, including Univision, CNN en Español, Telemundo, Fox Business and EWTN. She was born in Mexico City, holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and a master’s from George Washington University and is a competitive jazz and classical vocalist.

The ongoing Faith and Society lecture series is designed to give Ashland students and the Ashland community the opportunity to hear experts discuss critical topics of faith and its implications in contemporary society.
