Spanish Minor

Film Studies Minor
The Minor in Film Studies brings together critical analysis, global perspectives and hands-on storytelling. It is perfect for students interested in media, writing, visual arts, theatre, communication or any field where visual literacy matters. Through courses in composition, film analysis and a variety of arts, students build practical skills for future careers in writing, filmmaking and content creation.
Curriculum
Beginning with foundational English composition courses, students then take an in-depth look at film as an art form, cultural text and creative practice, learning how films tell stories through image, sound and narrative. These required courses satisfy 12 Core credits and are followed by a screenwriting workshop and four electives which students can tailor to their individual interests including visual aesthetics, design, performance for the screen, foundations of video and audio production, screenwriting and script development. Depending on which electives are taken, students can satisfy up to 9 additional Core credits. With a total of 27 credit hours, this minor combines the expertise of four AU departments to help students gain not only an appreciation for cinema but the tools of the trade, as well.
