Our Mission

We seek to ensure that the AU educational experience is inclusive of people of all religions, races, ethnicities, genders, ages and sexual orientations, as well as people with disabilities. To achieve our mission, we promote and advocate for marginalized populations, both on campus and in surrounding communities. We work with AU constituents to help ensure that all students receive not only a quality education, but also a diverse and multicultural one. We also devote special attention to recruiting and retaining students of color.

Diversity Scholars Program

We offer a four-year renewable scholarship called the Diversity Scholars Program. Eligibility is determined through the admissions and financial aid process; scholarships are automatically awarded and students are notified.

If you are a scholarship recipient, during your first year at AU you are required to:

  • Attend the Pathways Pre-Orientation Workshop, where you spend two days before the start of classes building social connections, learning about campus/community resources and engagement opportunities and interacting with peer mentors.
  • Attend three university events per semester and/or join a student organization.
  • Work with a peer mentor for the fall semester.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Student Organizations

American Sign Language (ASL) Club

ASL is designed to assist anyone in communicating with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or who have cognitive disabilities. Our goal is to educate AU students about the importance of Deaf culture and ASL. We hope to increase people’s awareness of the diversity that exists on the AU campus, to improve the lives of people who rely upon ASL to communicate and to foster in students a spirit of advocacy for and appreciation of ASL and Deaf culture.

We invite college women into our Christ-centered community. It’s a place where they can be vulnerable and make themselves known without fear of being judged or excluded, and where they can transform their stories.

Our purpose is to meet the social needs of students — both foreign and domestic — who are interested in international affairs. We provide programs that will increase awareness of and appreciation for world cultures on campus and within the surrounding communities.
