Accomplished alumnus Jay Dahlman ‘03 to present “Lab to Marketplace” seminar Nov. 9
ASHLAND, Ohio – Jay Dahlman ’03, Ph.D., who serves as the associate director of licensing for The Ohio State University’s Office of Innovation and Economic Development, will return to his alma mater on Thursday, Nov. 6, as the speaker for Ashland University’s eighth annual “Lab to Marketplace” seminar. He will present “Pivoting with Purpose: From Biomedical Researcher to Innovation Leader,” in room 218 at the Kettering Science Center at 7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
During “Pivoting with Purpose,” Dahlman will reflect on his career path from biology major and pole vaulter at AU, to earning a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology at Ohio State, to leading a team of licensing professionals focused on technology assessment, business development, licensing and service to stakeholders.
Dahlman has more than 20 years of experience in technology transfer and scientific research focused on driving research innovations to the market. After graduating cum laude from AU and then completing his doctorate degree, he was a post-doctoral research fellow at the National Institute of Human Genome Research (NIHGR) studying liver regeneration and repair. He was also awarded a technology transfer fellowship at the National Cancer Institute after a technology transfer internship at the NIHGR tech transfer office.
Those experiences led Dahlman to redirect his career path from biomedical research to helping move scientific discoveries into real-world applications. He has been with OSU since 2013, and also recently founded BrandForgeAI, a business consulting company that helps universities showcase and commercialize scientific research.
The “Lab to Marketplace” seminar series is designed to bring speakers to the AU community who are engaged in translational research, research that uses scientific knowledge to develop new technologies and other applications. It is supported by a generous gift from Kimmie and Steve Humrichouser and the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship in the Dauch College of Business and Economics.
