ASHLAND, Ohio — The Telego Center for Educational Improvement and Professional Learning Services teams at Ashland University, with support from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, will host the Summer Math Institute—a no‑cost, five‑day professional learning program for grades 4-8 math educators, on campus June 22-26.

“This immersive experience will focus on strengthening math content knowledge and classroom practice through high‑quality, research‑based professional development that advances effective math instruction across the state,” said Jim Powell, executive director of Professional Learning Services at AU. “The curriculum will be in alignment with Ohio’s Plan for K–12 Mathematics.”

Ohio’s Plan for K-12 Mathematics is a statewide vision of evidence-based math instruction, as well as guidance on the structures needed to bring quality instruction to scale. It is intended to serve as an anchor for local, regional and state education leaders, policymakers, partners and others who can play a role in improving students’ access to rigorous mathematics instruction and overall academic achievement.

The Summer Math Institute at AU will feature:

  • Five days of in‑person professional development for upper‑elementary and middle‑grades math teachers
  • Three graduate credits from Ashland University at no cost to educators or districts
  • Optional, but recommended on‑campus lodging and meals (4 nights, 5 days) to support an immersive experience
  • $100 stipend for selected participants
  • Sessions led by K-12 math experts from across Ohio, incorporating High Quality Instructional Material resources associated with Stanford’s Jo Boaler and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics
  • Opportunities for educators to collaborate and return to their schools ready to implement effective, research‑based practices

Applications are open now and spots are limited. The deadline to apply is March 31.
