Our Values

A Seat at the Table

We want our students to know that they are welcome and that they belong just as they are. We strive to afford them the opportunity to simply feel like a student with equal access to university resources and opportunities. We also get to empower students to recognize their unique voice and create opportunities to share it.

Culturally Curious

This campus is a brave place to learn in the classrooms and outside. Beyond academic endeavors we provide opportunities to learn about and celebrate diverse cultures.

Unity over Uniformity

A unified campus is a diverse collective of people uniquely working towards a common goal. Diversity of thought, ability, culture, gender, race, religion, and ethnicity ought to be celebrated along with cultivating a healthy curiosity of others. We share the common goal: to assist our students in discerning their life calling so that they may thrive.

Peace Seeking

A new vision is required when division is desired. Rather than managing race relations we seek to cultivate grace relations.

“Grace relations cannot be built on the foundation of self and group comforts. A grace relations perspective seeks to place the welfare of others above our personal comfort.” “Grace relations are built upon forgiveness and the intentional pursuit of peace, trust, unity, and loving relationships…”

A. Charles Ware

Service Oriented

Service allows the opportunity for our values to be shared in tangible ways with those most in need around us.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'"

Martin Luther King Jr

AU GIVS

Ashland University Gets Involved with Volunteer Service
We are a student-led organization with the mission of providing everyone at Ashland University with service opportunities to expand their social and educational experiences. In doing so, we hope to foster an understanding of social responsibility and to create an atmosphere in which civic engagement and lifelong commitment to service are the norm.

Black Student Alliance

We promote diversity and encourage leadership. We also seek equal justice for and offer assistance to those in need, as well as providing activities that strengthen the bonds among students in the Black community.

Eagles For Pride

We work toward making AU a safer and more inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We seek to accomplish this through education, support and community. In doing so, we hope to preserve and promote human dignity and respect for all people.

Eagle Mentoring Program

The Eagle Mentoring Program is a partnership between the Center of CommUNITY & Belonging and the Athletic Department. The program is designed to help incoming student athletes acclimatize to their rigorous schedules. We hope to assist student athletes in discovering their life calling and building a skillset so they can thrive in life. This program seeks to honor current student athletes for their success at Ashland. In turn we ask them to share their experience and expertise to help educate, empower, and enrich the lives of future Eagles. This is done through biweekly mentoring meetings and connections with service opportunities, campus resources, and student organizations.

International Student Club

Our purpose is to meet the social needs of students — both foreign and domestic — who are interested in international affairs. We provide programs that will increase awareness of and appreciation for world cultures on campus and within the surrounding communities. We also give international students more opportunities to engage in activities.

Pathways

The Pathways Pre-orientation Mentor Program is both a Pre-orientation event and a yearlong peer mentoring program. This program gives resilient students from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to acclimate to the campus environment before the fall semester begins. In addition, this program seeks to foster a nurturing community to support and resource incoming students.

Unidad

We are dedicated to creating, fostering, and broadening awareness of the Hispanic/Latin community at AU.

Women of Excellence

We work to empower, educate, and embrace the women of AU through fellowship and programs. We engage in issues that affect women locally, nationally, and globally.

Resilience Scholarship

The Resilience Scholarship is a $2,000 renewable award offered to incoming students through the Center for CommUNITY and Belonging. This scholarship supports students who show promise to enhance the diverse learning perspectives on campus and among their peers. Applicants will be considered based upon their proven ability to promote community, equity, and well-being on the Ashland University campus.
