Course Description:

The American Classical League Institute brings together teacher of Latin, Greek, and Classical Studies from primary school through college, and even life-long learning. The Institute provides a venue for teachers at all levels and all experiences to learn from each other.

Classics teachers are debating the traditional style of teaching versus more contemporary teaching methods that are becoming popular. In addition the controversies over how to address difficult topics (slavery, rape stories etc) is a critical topic addressed.

Implementation and Outcome:

You must attend at least 12.5 hours of institute sessions.

1. For each session you attend, write a very brief evaluation of the session. More than just a summary of the topic, I want to see how you think this will fit into your teaching and/or scholarship.

2. A final reflective paper (2-3 pages) discussing how everything you have learned can help you in your current teaching scenario and future career.

Participants will expand their knowledge of pedagogical strategies. Participants will increase their content knowledge by hearing from content area experts. Participants will explore the most current teaching materials available by exploring the virtual exhibit space.
